Entry Criteria

To start any Level 3 programme of study a student will need a minimum of 5 GCSE’s/level 2 qualifications at Grades 9 - 5 or A* - C including English and Maths. It is possible to take A Level Courses, BTEC Courses or a combination of both. There are individual entry criteria for each subject; so please refer to the requirements below. A number of subjects require grade 6 at GCSE to ensure access to the course.

Advanced Level Qualifications (Level 3) - subject entry criteria checklist:

Art

Students who wish to study this course are required to achieve a minimum of grade 6 in GCSE art & design or photography and preferably a grade 5 in English.

Business Studies (L3 BTEC)

Students who wish to study this course are required to achieve a minimum of grade 5 in GCSE English and mathematics, together with good ICT skills. It is not necessary to have studied business at GCSE.

Drama & Theatre Studies

Students who wish to study this course are required to achieve a minimum of grade 5 in both GCSE English language and literature. Preferably students should have a grade 5 in drama. Extra-Curricular experiences will be considered.

Applied Science (L3 BTEC)

Students who wish to study this course are required to achieve five GCSEs grade 5-9, including GCSE Science, English and Maths.

Biology

Students who wish to study this course are required to achieve a minimum of grade 6 in either GCSE Biology or GCSE Combined Science. GCSE English and maths are also required at a grade 5.

Chemistry

Students who wish to study this course are required to achieve a minimum of grade 6 in GCSE Chemistry or GCSE Combined Science. GCSE Maths is also required at a grade 5.

Economics

Students who wish to study this course are required to achieve a minimum of grade 5 in GCSE English and mathematics, together with good ICT skills. It is not necessary to have studied economics or business at GCSE.

English Language

Students who wish to study this course are required to achieve a minimum of grade 6 in GCSE English language.

English Literature

Students who wish to study this course are required to achieve a minimum of grade 6 in GCSE English literature.

Geography

Students who wish to study this course are required to achieve a minimum of grade 6 in GCSE geography and grade 5 in English.

History

Students who wish to study this course are required to achieve a minimum of grade 6 at GCSE history and grade 5 in English.

Health & Social Care

Students who wish to study this course are required to achieve five GCSEs grade 4-9 including English and maths.

Languages

Students who wish to study this course are required to achieve a strong grade 6 GCSE in French/German/Spanish.

Mathematics

Students who wish to study this course are required to achieve a minimum of grade 6 in GCSE mathematics.

Further Mathematics

Students who wish to study this course are required to achieve a minimum of grade 8 in mathematics. You will be taking A Level maths alongside this course.

Music

Students who wish to study this course are required to achieve a minimum grade 5 performance or equivalent.

Photography

Students who wish to study this course are required to achieve a minimum of grade 6 in GCSE art or photography and students should have a creative background.

Physical Education

Students will be expected to have at least a Merit in Level 2 BTEC Sport or a grade 6 in a Science and a grade 5 in English and Maths. It is highly recommended that you are playing a sport outside of college and training twice a week.

Physics

Students who wish to study this course are required to achieve a minimum of grade 6 in GCSE Physics or GCSE Combined Science. GCSE maths grade 6 or above is also required. Students are required to also be studying A Level Maths.

Psychology

Students who wish to study this course are required to achieve a minimum of grade 6 in GCSE English (preferably in literature) and GCSE grade 5 or above in GCSE Maths and GCSE Science.

Sports Studies (L3 BTEC)

Students who wish to study this course are required to achieve five GCSEs grade 4-9. Alternatively, students are required to achieve a merit profile for a level 2 qualification. A grade 5 or above in GCSE English is also required.

Technology: Product Design

Students who wish to study this course are required to achieve five GCSEs grade 4-9. One of these should be in a technology subject.

Extended Project (NB: can be taken in either Year 12 or Year 13)

Students who wish to study this course are required to have at least a grade 6 average at GCSE.
